Messages Of Condolence

I was at University with Derek (and Catriona). He was a brilliant friend to me in my first year away from home and helped to make Loughborough one of the best times of my life. We called him Tigger - always bouncing with energy..... or asleep. A great engineer and inventor of all things serious and trivial. Sincere condolences to Catriona and the family from Richard and Toni.

Derek was a great source of knowledge and had a mischeovous sense of humour. He will be missed. Condolences to his family.

I got to know Derek when he came to join the Fluids Group at MIRA, his effect on the office was instantaneous. He brought an energy and enthusiasm that was infectious. We worked together on a number of hybrid vehicle projects and, to be honest, it re-invigorated me at a low time in my career. He made work fun again. What was really inspiring though was the amount of joy he shared for his home life as well. His stories of cycling trips, modifications he was making to his bow (with a couple of old golf clubs! Ever the master of invention!) and especially what his family were up to, made sitting next to him in the office a genuine pleasure. When he and his team relocated back to the main site the office was very quiet again. Derek, you loveable mad scientist, you will be missed. Angus
